FTP is used to upload your "web files" to your website.
However, I know of no "Free" websites. Server space costs money.
Type in google & Search in Free Website Maker. There give in all info & you can make. I’ve Made one be4.
Although I have considered myself, I don’t actually use one of these services, so can’t vouch for any of them in any way.

If you’re in college the school might have free web space for all students.
One thing I did when I was in college was I had asked for permission to use the schools webspace. It took a little bit of time and convincing but I eventually gained access. Its worth a shot especially if its for school.
