I want to create a simple website but am not sure how to go about it, what is the best way?

December 9, 2011 //  by admin

A frequently-asked query:

Here is what I have got so far. A domain name and a host with Cpanel and all the jazz that comes with it. I also have AdobeDreamweaver but I am not sure if it is the best way to go just yet as I have limited knowledge of HTML.

What I have done so far is made a background/layout in GIMP (simply painted/drawn) which is what I want to have as the background for my simple 1-page website/index page. On top of this I want to add text which will be able to be picked up by search engines etc etc

What is the best way to add this text? I’ve tried using Dreamweaver by creating an HTML doc and then setting my image as the background Image but inserting the text on the <body> of the HTML using <p> tags is not fulfilling my requirements.

Please point me in the right direction in either creating textboxes in dreamweaver or free software which will allow me to do this.

Thanks.
When I try
insert–>form–>Text Field.
I can’t format the box how I would like either.

I have done research lol. I envy you when it comes to wasting your own time with petty little responses when people are simply asking for help.

Answer: You are not alone. Free hosting will not be the best hosting for you. Web hosting is the heart of your online presence and can mean the life or death to your business.

Before we answer your question, let us review the 7 factors to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:

  1. has at least 30 days money back guarantee,
  2. gives more-than-enough diskspace,
  3. offers unlimited bandwidth,
  4. gives unlimited add-on domains,
  5. has easy Site Builder,
  6. has Fantastico and QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
  7. can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of their cheap dedicated server plans if and when your business require.

To answer your question, 92% of Webmasters recommended to try Hostgator. If you are building your first website and needs a hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best cheap cpanel hosting around.

What if you find out that Hostgator sucks after you signed up with them? HG has 45 days, longer-than-industry-average money back guarantee so you have ample time to test them out. They are rated A+ by Better Business Bureau which shows their commitment to customer satisfaction. You also do not have to pay for the first month. You can just try their fully functional hosting service – you pay only $0.01 (you need to use the special coupon code). Do you know any other hosting company that can give you that kind of assurance? Anybody can grab an account from Hostgator for almost FREE.

Who Should Not Try Hostgator

To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. Drawback of Hostgator includes:

  1. No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
  2. You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost

If you are still not sure if HG is right for you, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just shoot them some questions before you decide.

I suggest that you learn how to code tableless xhtml sites. Look for tutorials online, but the whole process I recommend you to start off making the mockup you like in photoshop, after that you learn how to slice the different parts into images files.

Depends on what you use, but I recommend hand coding. I’m a mac currently, and uses a program named Coda from panicsoft. It’s cheap and very very sufficient of using.

check out sites such as psdtuts, nettuts etc. These are sites that learn you how to create good stuff, not just lousy old fashioned boring tutorials.

You have to learn how HTML works, it’s as simple as that. HTML is not hard. It’s just a markup language, with no programming involved. You also need to learn how to use styles, such as in cascading style sheets. They allow you to separate the layout from the page content.

Dreamweaver and other tools like it will simple put something together rapidly, bloat your code and frequently create pages that aren’t really what you want. You’re better off using a plain text editor then one of those apps.

I suggest you step back, go to this site and read the tutorials on HTML (or XHTML, which is really better today) and CSS.
